Piers Morgan Interviewing Cheryl Cole - Click Here to open the link

At the beginning of this interview Piers Morgan asks Cheryl Cole “How are you feeling?” she replies “Terrified” and he asks “Why?”. You can see from the way she is answered this first question and the way she is sat that she feels very awkward and looks uncomfortable. He asks about her personal life with mostly closed questions, because he is asking such specific questions this shows he is controlling how the interview goes. Piers Morgan says “...this has turned you into a style icon” then Cheryl Cole replies “But I don’t think I’m a style icon” then Piers Morgan asks the audience “Ladies is she?” they all reply with “Yes”. Asking these questions are building up her confidence so she feels comfortable in the interview, also they’re not serious questions they’re quite light-hearted. He the n goes onto talking about how much she spends on clothes; he tries to make some of the questions and responses quite humorous. Further into the interview he talks about her career and deeper into her personal life which then ends up in Cheryl Cole being upset. The questions he asks are really investigative as he is trying to find out details about her life. The style of this interview is entertaining also, because it is a chat show with a live audience.

This interview is very structured; he asks closed questions for the introduction just to get her to feel more relaxed in front of him and the audience. Then he asks some development questions which builds her confidence, for example when he talks about her being a style icon. Further into the interview the key questions get asked, then towards the very end there is a summary and the windup.

Piers Morgan uses a few communication skills during the interview; he sits quite comfortably in his chair while Cheryl Cole is sat with her legs cross. Although, Piers Morgan leans forwards slightly when asking questions which could make Cheryl Cole feel a bit intimidated. He responds to Cheryl Cole with a nod of saying ‘yes’ ‘hmm’ while she is speaking which shows that he is still listening and hasn't switched off, this is active listening. He also uses his hands when he speaks which is also to do with body language and active listening.
