Jeremy Paxman

Jeremy Paxman Interviewing Nigel Farage – Click here to open the link

This interview starts off with a few single / closed questions, the first question Jeremy Paxman asks is “Your slogan, we want our country back, back from whom?” he then asks another question “What’s your problem with Romanians?” Jeremy Paxman is asking the questions and is controlling what is said within the interview because he is asking specific questions that people want to hear answers to. He also uses a lot of statements that Nigel Farage has tweeted of previously said in other interviews to get a reaction from him. Towards the end of the interview Jeremy asks “Let me ask you this one personal question, you explained away some of your difficulties last week by saying you were very tired” The Nigel Farage replies with “Well do you know something often you get into interviews with aggressive interviewers, you know the sort of people I’m talking about..” he used a little bit of humour there aiming that answer at Jeremy Paxman being the ‘aggressive interviewer’. Because of the questions asked in this interview and the way they are answered we know that the style of interview is very combative because Jeremy Paxman sometimes disagrees and argues with Nigel Farage to get a better reaction and answer that people want to hear. This interview is also hard news because the topic of the conversation is politics.

The structure of this interview is quite different compared to the previous one; it doesn’t really have an introduction. Jeremy Paxman goes straight into starting the conversation with development and key questions.

The interviewer is sat relaxed in his chair with his leg crossed; he did this to make the guest feel a bit more comfortable during the interview. They both interrupt each other when they’re speaking when they’re both trying to get their point across.
